Cdn. Power Pac was awarded the Westlawn IPD (Integrated Project Delivery) Project which involves the design and construction of two schools in the Westlawn community: Aleda Patterson School (K-3) and Alex Janvier (4-9). The project includes the demolition of the existing Westlawn and Afton School Buildings and includes complete site, service infrastructure for each school, Solar Technology, design costs, energy assessments & modelling, installation and base building modifications. Each school’s solar array is comprised of approximately 280 kW of Solar DC capacity which will subsidize 50% of each school’s energy needs. It is very impressive to see these schools built in an environmentally responsible way.

The project objectives are as follows:

  • A building that maximizes energy efficiency and sustainability to the full extent of the budget;
  • A building that achieves LEED silver or better with the potential to incorporate alternative energy systems;
  • Administer and adhere to LEED documentation and coordination responsibilities;
  • A building that is recognized as innovative in school design;
  • A building that speaks to 21st century learning environments;
  • A building that fosters a strong sense of community and school pride; and,
  • All specific site and building design elements conform to latest edition of the Edmonton Public School’s Design Guidelines.
