PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Cdn. Power Pac has been working at the Universtiy of Alberta Chemistry Buildings in phases over the years to complete Electrical upgrades, modernizations and renewal design builds. Cdn. Power Pac was awarded the Electrical Upgrade Project which consists of the following scope:

  • Redistribute normal standby and emergency power throughout the building
  • Connect to the new high voltage switchgear
  • Install 400’ of 1600A cable bus from the basement vault to the penthouse electrical room
  • Upgrade 3x 6 story electrical risers with new electrical panels
  • Remove and replace the existing equipment
  • Connect to (3) new synchronous generators on the roof
  • Provide standby and emergency power to critical laboratory and mechanical loads

The Project is currently underway during the COVID pandemic (employing 20 Electricians) which impacts material, scheduling, user groups and employees. Cdn. Power Pac is adapting to changing and industry standards while maintaining costs and schedule and seeking advantage and opportunity with the reduced campus traffic and occupancy.
