Building Type: Commercial & Residential Building General Contractor: EllisDon Construction
Project Manager: Nick Algar Foreman: Tom Graham

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Block BG (also known as Tower B) is the next phase of the ICE District development in downtown Edmonton (located at the intersection of 103 Street & 104 Avenue), by Katz Group Properties, ONE Properties, and designed by DIALOG. The 42-storey project will consistent of 582 residential and commercial units once completed. Retail tenants will include Loblaws City Market grocery store, The Canadian ICEhouse , that will span three levels including a rooftop patio, and The Banquet – a two-level dining and entertainment experience that will include shuffleboard, bowling lanes and more.

The project consists of building 2+ levels on top of an existing parkade, which is partially in use. Cdn. Power Pac will be required to coordinate with stakeholders and other trades throughout the project to avoid interaction with the general public, especially being the center of downtown. Site storage is limited; with no space for job trailers or C-cans and therefore Cdn. Power Pac will stage most of the material at our shop and coordinate delivery as required to site. This approach will alleviate the risk of theft and reduce traffic congestion and safety concerns.

  • Cdn. Power Pac was awarded the following electrical scope:
  • Lighting, emergency lighting, lighting controls, supply & installation
  • Voice/data supply and installation
  • Fire alarm system supply, installation and verification
  • Distribution supply and installation
  • Generator & ATS
  • Security & access control systems – Empty conduits only
  • PA System – Empty conduits only
  • Residential Door Entry Phones – Empty conduits only
  • Lighting protection – BG Podium Only
  • AS-Built
  • Testing and Commission of Major Equipment

One half of the building will be worked on before the other and therefore, Cdn. Power Pac will have to coordinate Electrical tie-ins to both portions. At the peak of the project Cdn. Power Pac anticipates we will employ approximately 30-40 Electricians.
